Fira 2000 is the organization which has as its principal objective the administration and execution of the expansion of the grounds of Fira Barcelona at Gran Via. It is a collaborator with the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Navigation of Barcelona, the Generalitat de Catalunya (autonomous Catalan government), the Barcelona City Hall , the L'Hospitalet de Llobregat City Hall, the Diputació de Barcelona (Barcelona City Council) and the Association of Municipalities of the Greater Barcelona Area.

By the end of 2009, the project for the extension of the Fira Barcelona will make available a total constructed area of 368.000 m² of covered exhibition space and over 5.000 parking spaces, thus allowing the Fira Barcelona to become, not only one of the largest fairgrounds in Europe, but also one recognized as the most cutting-edge in design, technological innovation and services.

At present, the two current sites of the Fira Barcelona, Montjuic and Gran Via, have a total area of 205.000 m² . The Gran Via site, once completed, will have a total of 240.000 m² , distributed amongst 8 pavilions –5 of which already exist – and an auditorium with a holding capacity of 2.500. The public works at the site of the fairgrounds will cover more than 4 hectares and will have 4.500 parking spaces.
